Dustin E. Owens, Esq.

Dustin E. Owens is an effective, understanding, and efficient attorney. He was voted by Times-Standard readers as the Best of the North Coast – Attorney in 20015 and 2016. Mr. Owens is a former President of the Humboldt County Bar Association and former Vice President of the Sequoia Park Zoo Foundation board of directors.


Mr. Owens went to middle school and high school in Fortuna, California. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Washington at age 19. At age 23, he graduated summa cum laude from Hofstra University School of Law, a private school in New York. After law school, Mr. Owens moved back to Humboldt County immediately to take the bar exam and practice law. When he was first admitted to practice in 2006, Mr. Owens was hired by the Law Office of Christopher G. Metzger. In 2010, Mr. Owens and Mr. Metzger formed Metzger & Owens, Attorneys at Law. In 2012, Mr. Owens opened his firm in Eureka following the untimely passing of Mr. Metzger. On January 1, 2016, he joined Laurence S. Ross to form Owens & Ross.

Mr. Owens’ practice areas include real estate, probate, business law, civil litigation, contracts, collections, bankruptcy, and estate planning. These areas of law encompass many different types of matters.

Laurence S. Ross, Esq.

Laurence Ross graduated summa cum laude from the University of California at Santa Barbara, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law and Society, in 1989. While successfully completing the honors student program at UCSB, he took full advantage of his early exposure to the law. He then attended Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. At Loyola, Laurence was honored to conduct a weekly Civil Procedure tutorial for fellow students. He graduated from Loyola in 1992 and passed the California bar exam in December of that year.

After practicing law in Los Angeles and appearing in courts all over Southern California for twelve years, Laurence relocated with his family to the Pacific Northwest and has been a Humboldt County, California resident since 2005. Between 2005 and 2015, Laurence was an associate attorney with Donald W. Bicknell, a Yale Law School graduate and certified family law specialist. During those ten years, Laurence expanded his practice to include family law. After Mr. Bicknell’s retirement in December 2015, Laurence joined Dustin E. Owens to open the law firm Owens & Ross to serve a wide range of clients, from individuals to businesses.


Laurence has also been involved in every business litigation and collections law stage. He is also experienced in probate, estate planning, and landlord-tenant law. Laurence is admitted to appearing before all the State of California courts, the United States Court for the Central District of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a Humboldt County Bar Association member and an American Victorian history enthusiast.
